The expert source for vintage original Edward S. Curtis
Historic Artifact of the American West.
This is the third largest Buffalo on record, cited in an early edition of Records of North American Big Game, Boone & Crokett.
The Buffalo was shot while charging a wrangler during the 1902 round-up of the last remaining wild herd of Buffalo in Yellowstone National Park. This round-up established the foundation breeding stock of Yellowstone's Buffalo Ranch Preserve for the protected breeding of the last remnants of the disappearing species.
