The Frank Donohue Curtis Collection
It is a privilege for the Bruce Kapson Gallery to present the historic Edward S. Curtis collection of Frank Donohue. This important collection has never appeared on the market before.
Frank Donohue was the very first sales representative engaged by Curtis for The North American Indian and worked for Edward Curtis as early as 1906.
This collection was created by Curtis expressly for Donohue’s presentation to prospective subscribers of The North American Indian and consists of much one-of-a-kind material.
Donohue received early states of Curtis' photogravures, on different varieties of paper, to be used as samples. These singular photogravures lack the traditional printed marginal caption information--no letterpress title, no printer's credit and no photographer's copyright.
The photogravures and other rare material have remained in the Donohue family for over 100 years and have passed directly to the Donohue grandchildren.
This historically important work represents a rare opportunity for the Curtis collector.
