View of the back of the vintage At The Old Well of Acoma Goldtone in the original Curtis Studio Seattle frame showing the complete Curtis Studio description legend as well as the complete Curtis Studio Seattle sticker present on the original frame backing paper.
The piece is stunning and truly extraordinary, one of the only 15 percent of Goldtones Curtis produced with perfect exposures, neither too dark nor too light, absolutely brilliant. It is in the original Curtis Studio Seattle frame with both the complete Curtis Studio description legend and the complete Curtis Studio Seattle sticker present on the original paper frame backing.
The Goldtone itself is nearly flawless--no staining, no finger prints, no discoloration whatsoever to any areas of the emulsion. A single 1/4 inch scratch in the glass is visible only in raking light at the far left center close to the frame edge. There is the very slightest thin I/4 inch gold line appearing in the the emulsion in the water towards the far right about mid way up. The frame is missing some areas of plaster, all minor with the exception of the lower left frame corner and can easily be restored if so desired.
Additionally, this Goldtone has been in the same family by descent since its original purchase in Seattle sometime prior to 1920. It has never appeared on the market since that original purchase and is simply among the best examples of a Goldtone I've ever seen in my over 30 years in the field.
