View of the back of the vintage Prayer To The Stars Goldtone in the original Curtis Studio Seattle frame showing the partial rare Edward S. Curtis “Musicale” poster used as part of the frame backing.
Vintage rare 14" x 11" Goldtone Print of Prayer To The Stars, appearing in the original Curtis Studio Seattle frame with remnants of original frame backing paper, 14 x 11, circa 1908.
The Goldtone is one of the only 15 percent that were produced by Curtis that were perfect exposures, neither too dark or too light, absolutely brilliant and luminous. This Goldtone print itself is nearly flawless - no staining, no finger prints, no discoloration to any areas of the emulsion. A single small circular spot of missing emulsion, approximately 1/4 inch in diameter, can be seen in the upper right sky. There is the very slightest thin 1/4-inch gold line appearing in the emulsion midway up to the left of the figure. The frame shows several areas of minor wear and chipping and is otherwise in excellent original condition.
This truly rare example of Prayer To The Stars, an image not often seen in the Goldtone format, is accompanied by a partial vintage Edward S. Curtis "Musicale" poster that was used as part of the Goldtone's original backing within the frame.
The presence of this extraordinarily rare piece of Curtis ephemera with this Goldtone definitively dates the sale of this specific Goldtone Print by The Curtis Studio Seattle to 1911 or 1912.
