Signed Curtis in ink on the lower right of the print, negative date 1904, annotated 1919 in pencil on a rare variant of the original Curtis Studio description label on the original period frame with a partial Pacific Frame, Seattle sticker on the frame back.
The print itself measures approximately 7.5 inches by 9.25 inches and is in excellent original condition. The frame measures 8.75 inches by 10.75 inches overall.
This piece comes with a wonderful provenance. It was acquired directly from the Curtis Studio Seattle in 1919 as a wedding gift to the current owner's grandparents and has remained in the same family by descent since. This fabulous piece has never appeared on the market before.
Edward S. Curtis, unlike most photographers of his era, actually created a larger body of Platinum Prints than of Silver Prints. While Platinum Prints comprise well under one half of one percent of the extant Curtis work, the Curtis Silver Print exists in even fewer numbers by a significant factor.
