Described by Edward S. Curtis: "The Apsaroke medicine-men usually painted their lodges according to the visions received while fasting and supplicating their spirits. This tipi was painted dark red, with various symbols on the covering. No man would dare so to decorate a tipi without having received his instructions in revelation from the spirits."
