Beaded Belt Buckle with cut glass and contemporary beads of ivory, powder blue, sky blue, purple, cranberry red, and black sewn on brain tanned hide, 4.375 inches W. x 3 inches L. x .25 inches H. Will fit up to a 2 inch wide belt. An exceptional example of the work by internationally renown Plateau bead artist Maynard White Owl Lavadour. Lavadour, Cayuse-Nez Perce (b.1960) and an Umatilla tribal member, is considered one of the premier bead artists of his generation. Maynard's work is represented in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC as well as numerous other museums and private collections. Maynard was born in Pendleton, Oregon, and grew up on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. As a young child, he spent considerable time with his elders and began learning to make beadwork at age five. By the age of ten he was already creating cradleboards, clothing, and woven cornhusk objects.
