TEFAF NEW YORK (FALL): Park Avenue Armory | Historic Room 104
New York, New York
Bruce Kapson Gallery presented the solo exhibition, DISCOVERING GENIUS: THE WORKS OF EDWARD S. CURTIS marking the premier exhibition in New York City of Edward S. Curtis’ (1868 -1952) Masterwork Copper Photogravure Printing Plates from The North American Indian in the 112-year history of this unique body of the artist’s work.
The Copper Photogravure Printing Plates, conserved and exhibited in their original copper and inked state, are the source of origin for every vintage photogravure print extant produced in The North American Indian.
Curtis began work on the Copper Photogravure Printing Plates in 1906 and worked on them continuously until the project was completed in 1930. Curtis would spend more time perfecting the imagery of these Copper Plates than he did any of his other photographic mediums. Each Plate is a unique work, a primary document of one of the most significant publishing ventures of the 20th century.
